There are many opportunities for walks in the mountains around Lierna. Paths are signposted and marked but for the less experienced we suggest you take a guide. In the summer months you'll need to start early to avoid the heat of the day. Then on your return, you can take a cooling dip in the lake. Maps are available in the flat and you can call on us for suggestions and help with planning
Here are some sample itineries:

Lierna (Casate) - Paradiso - Saioli - Level of difficulty -easy. Total climb: 100 metres. Time required: 1˝ hours. A gentle walk through the woods with views over the lake.

Lierna (Genico) - Croce di Brentalone - Mezzedo - Level of difficulty - more tiring. Total climb - 500 metres.Time required 3 hours but it's nice to stay at Mezzedo and picnic in the meadow.

Lierna - Predanč - Sasso Rosso - Bocchetta di Palagia - Alpe di Lierna. Level of difficulty - strenuous. Total climb: 800 metres. Time required: depends how fit you are! 4-5 hours maybe. "Alpe" is a big meadow area with some small stone buildings known as Caselli or Baite (pronounced (bye-tay), one of which is inhabited in the summer by a farmer who grazes his cattle up there are makes cheese, another belongs to Lierna Municipality and one may camp in it overnight. The Bocchetta is the top of the path and one can look down over Lierna and the lake spread out below.
Walks farther afield
There are many beautiful walks in the surrounding area. Behind Mandello are the two peaks of Grigna Settentrionale (northern) and Meridionale at 2409 and 2180 metres each. Walks to these start from Piani Resinelli, Cainallo, or Mandello. Mount Legnone at 2609 metres towers over Colico at the top of the lake. There are mountain refuges "rifugi" which are manned in the warmer months by Club Alpino Italiano CAI. The main ones offer meals and overnight accommodation. One doesn't need to tackle the high peaks: there are lots of lovely paths that wander about among the woods and meadows of the lower slopes.
